A glimpse inside Pandory

Welcome to the dreamcatcher

Pandory is a collection of flash fiction with twisted endings. My inspirations come from quotes, real life experiences, things I have seen or heard and even watched. Pandory starts with The Dreamcatcher. Its a fictional story about where Pandory and her stories came from. The other stories can be enjoyed in any order you like. Flash Fiction takes between 3 and 10 minutes long to read, and are perfect when you don't have a lot of time to spare. I really hope you enjoy these and don't forget to subscribe so you know when Pandory has emptied another dreamcatcher!

Adaline stepped inside the bookshop, her most favourite place in the world. She breathed in the smell of paper and ink and wondered if it was possible to bottle a book like perfume. She thumbed through the many paperbacks, spoilt for choice finally settling on the book that was out of place. The blank hardback book with no title placed delicately on the top of the bookshelf. Her fingers danced along the seam and the mystery surrounding it told her that this was her book. She seized it and held it to her chest, looking around to make sure no one would steal it from her.

Adaline hurried to the cafe ordering herself her usual tea from Fiona. She didn't even notice the new cashier (who was just her type) bring it to her table. Her mind was lost, her nose buried deep between the pages, the ink from them becoming the oxygen in which she breathed.

The first chapter introduced Luke, his detailed description had Adaline trembling with excitement. He was her perfect man. He was looking for his soul mate and the more he described her, the woman of his dreams, the more Adaline fell in love.

'...She used her thumb to wipe the fog from her glasses, caused by the still steaming tea untouched before her. She held the book with both hands mesmerised by what she reads. She knows i'm watching her from between the lines and I can hear her breath catch as she nears the climax. She knows where it is going but not quite how it ends. She's deaf to the world around her, my voice is all she can hear. Shes completely lost to reality, but maybe shes been found here. In my strange paper realm far from the bookstore in which she sits, she has left behind the misery of life to find here, her refuge with me. And I will gladly take her, all she has to do is turn the page....'

Adaline could barely breathe. Characters were not supposed to fall in love with their readers. It was not the order of things. She looked around her to see if anyone one was watching. But everyone was continuing with their own lives, their own stories.

'This book was meant for me all along' she thought and with nothing to lose in life she bit her lip, found some courage and turned the page.

Before she knew it, she was dancing along the paper, walking along the words she had just read. In the strange world she had plummeted herself into, she searched for Luke, the character she was destined to be with and the man she knew was devoted to her.

'Luke, can you put that book back on the shelves please, Adalines just left it there' asked Fiona the head cashier.

'Sure thing' said the new cashier picking up the book and closing it with a knowing smirk.

'She was well into it' shouted Fiona. 'Bet it was a soppy romance'

'No' Luke shook his head and held up the book. 'This ones definitely a horror'
